Pistachio’s Sway (Drabble #3)

Are you a fan of ice cream?

I loved it as a kid, unless it was vanilla. As an adult, I developed a sensitivity to dairy, and my husband and sons aren’t big ice cream eaters, so it’s a rare occasion when we have any at our house. However, when my boys were younger, they did enjoy an ice cream sandwich – especially the ones made with decadent chocolate chips cookies sold at one of our favourite grocery store chains.

In the drabble above, the unnamed female character is an ice cream fan, especially pistachio ice cream. In fact, she likes it so much she’s willing to put up with spending time with a fellow that she finds attractive and yet annoying.

What flavour of ice cream could you just not pass up?

I was thinking of two characters from the Hatfield Falls series when I wrote this drabble. Can you guess who they might be?

The answer can be found in this story excerpt from Don’t Tell My Heart It Can Heal:

“Taking attendance?” Blake sidled up to Henry, who was watching the door to the youth room at the church where the singles night was happening this month. Thankfully, his mother had not been successful in her quest to have February’s activity be a Valentine’s banquet. Instead, they were going to play games, watch some old movie, and have a time of worship – and not on Valentine’s Day.

“Nope. Just waiting for someone.”

“Hey, Princess.” Blake doffed his imaginary top hat to Cari as she entered.

“Peasant,” she said with a pointed look and a scowl.

Blake chuckled. “She likes me. She just pretends not to.”

“Yeah, I’m not so sure about that,” Henry said.

“She hasn’t slashed the tires on my truck, and she says hello when I see her at the apartment building.”

“I’m still not sure that means she likes you.”

Blake shrugged. “It’s good enough for me. Now, who are we watching for?”
