Rosebank Cottage (Ross Farm Museum)

Today’s entry into images of Nova Scotia, Rosebank Cottage, was built in 1817 by Captain William Ross and is part of Ross Farm Museum in New Ross, Nova Scotia. This museum has not only the cottage, but also several other buildings such as a school, barns, blacksmith shop, store, and cooper shop.

The farm is a living heritage farm so there are crops grown, animals and implements of farming that are in use, demonstrations of cooking techniques in the cottage kitchen, and horse-drawn wagon rides, among other activities to enjoy. Interpreters are dressed in period clothing and share so much interesting information.

The museum strives to depict what it was like to live on an upland Nova Scotia farm in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and personally, I think they do a great job of it.

The photos above were taken on one of our many trips to the farm. Each year they do a Christmas at Ross Farm weekend, and several years ago, my husband took me there for my birthday since it fell on my birthday weekend. They just had this special event this past weekend, and according to their website, it was sold out.
