Has anyone done any bargain shopping this past weekend? Or maybe you’re set to do some today. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are big days for those in the business of selling things. (I even have a sale going on for my other pen name. 🙂 )
Shopping in 1860s Nova Scotia would have been a bit different than what we are used to today. The store above, Cumminger Bros, is part of a living history museum in Nova Scotia called Sherbrooke Village. In the image above, you can see one of the display windows on the front of the building and then the items that were sold on that side of the store. The desk is from the office which is through the door at the back, just behind the barrels at the end of the counter.
On the other side of the store, were things like a fantastically fancy silver tea service and china among other items. If you follow the store back on that side, you would end up in a storage room and find a set of stairs to take you upstairs to a studio where you could get your picture (ambrotype) taken.
If you’re interested in seeing more images of this village, I just uploaded a memories video to YouTube so I could share a link to it with you. The video is about four minutes long. You can view that video at this link. I’m pretty sure that some of the images in the video will, at some point, end up here in The Gallery. 🙂
