Finally, we had a weekend day that was good for taking a walk here in Lower Sackville, NS. It was COLD but sunny. The temperature was well below freezing, and there was a light breeze. I bundled up in multiple layers, and my husband and I tried out a new-to-us trail.
This trail is paved and well-maintained. It runs along the river and through a residential and commercial area of town. At one end of the trail there is a bus stop and at the other end is Kentucky Fried Chicken. (We parked in the back of their lot. So that was our starting point.)
The KFC end of the trail brings people out to the main road through Lower Sackville and puts them nearly on the doorstep to several shops as well as various other eating establishments. The library isn’t too far down that main road either.
There were many on the path with us on that cold Sunday, but the next day, when we went back for another walk, there were even more people sharing the trail with us. Monday, February 21, was a holiday here in Nova Scotia (Heritage Day), and it was above freezing. Both of those things made it a great day to hit the trails.
People were not the only creatures to share the trail with us. As you can see from the picture above, there were lots of ducks. On Monday, there were some individuals scattering food for them along the river bank.
When you finally get to read Don’t Tell My Heart It Can Heal (the Hatfield Falls book I am currently working on), in chapter 13 when Trish talks about going walking on a path near Friendly’s (a grocery store in Hatfield Falls), this is the path that was in my head as I wrote that line. And yes, there is a grocery store next to to the trail. (Well, you have to cross a side street to get from the back of the KFC parking lot to the front of the grocery store’s parking lot, but it’s really close. 🙂 )
