This weekend is a long weekend here in Canada because Monday is Victoria Day. It’s also known as May 2-4 weekend because Queen Victoria’s birthday was May 24. And on Victoria Day, we remember Queen Victoria, during whose reign, Canada became confederated and was granted responsible government.
What is responsible government? Well, I’ll let this History Minutes video explain.
History Minutes used to be played during commercial breaks on TV. I haven’t watched live (aka non-streamed) TV in years, so maybe they still do run them? I don’t know. They were all short little bites of history like this. You can see more of them on their YT channel if you’re interested.
To help you celebrate the Victoria Day Weekend, Don’t Tell Anyone I Read Romance will be $0.99 CAD, AUD, NZD, GBP, EUR, and USD, with all other currencies also reduced. And because I happen to know that our neighbours to the south have a long weekend next week (because I grew up in the States and have relatives there), I’m keeping that book at $0.99 until May 26.
Depending on the weather, we will likely put some hamburgers on the barbeque (or the indoor grill should it be rainy) and maybe we will even visit a garden center to pick up some seedlings for the garden my husband wants to start this year and get our hands dirty prepping things. He will have Monday off, and I might. I haven’t decided yet. Recently, I’ve been doing Uber Eats deliveries on Mondays, but it would be nice to have a day off at the same time as my husband. So maybe, I’ll be doing deliveries on Saturday or Tuesday.
Whether your weekend is a leisurely long weekend or just more of the normal variety, I hope it’s a good one and that you’ll find a few minutes to enjoy a book.
